Competition Rules
Open to all Filipino filmmakers (based in the Philippines and abroad). Employees of the CCP and their close relations are disqualified from participating in the competition.
All works must be strictly independent works and not produced for commercial screening. School-based works (i.e. theses) are eligible.
Entries must have been completed not earlier than April 30, 2022.
A submission in any of the categories shall not exceed the running time of forty-five (45) minutes.
Each participant is allowed a maximum of three (3) entries in each category.
An entry can only be submitted in one (1) category.
Music and other art forms used in the film must be original or in public domain.
Competition requirements: - Duly accomplished entry form; - Film format in AVI, MP4, or MKV only. Film size must not exceed 1GB; - Filename in the following format: FilmTitle_FilmDirector; - Additional film information such as synopsis (not more than 70 words in 1 paragraph), genre, running time, rating, full production credits in Word or PDF format; - Two (2) still photos from the film entry in jpeg format; and - Film entry poster (if available) in jpeg format (minimum of 1080x720 pixels).
Entries shall be submitted online. Go to Submit Film to fill out the online entry form and upload your film and additional requirements.
Deadline of submission is no later than 11:59 PM on April 30, 2023.
If an entry was submitted and is selected as finalist in both the Cinemalaya Shorts competition and Gawad Alternatibo, the said entry will automatically be removed from the Gawad Alternatibo lineup in favor of Cinemalaya.
Finalists will be screened during the Cinemalaya 2023 Film Festival, of which Gawad Alternatibo is a part.
Awards for winning entries shall be given to the filmmaker/ director indicated in the entry form. For joint directorial works, the group must assign a single representative to act on its behalf. All official communications shall be addressed to this representative. The CCP shall not be held liable for any controversy regarding the sharing of awards among the members of the group.
In the event that the entry wins, the filmmaker/proponent should immediately secure a Tax Identification Number (T.I.N.) for the processing of cash prize/s.
The decision of the Board of Judges is final. The board reserves the right not to give awards in any category should no entry merit it. In the case of genre ambivalence or instances where films are entered in an inappropriate category, the jurors shall decide the category of the entry to which it will be competing. Filmmakers will be duly informed of such changes in their entry submission.
Prizes for the categories, SHORT FEATURE, EXPERIMENTAL, DOCUMENTARY and ANIMATION are as follows: - 1st PRIZE: PHP 50,000.00 - 2nd PRIZE: PHP 30,000.00 - 3rd PRIZE: PHP 20,000.00 - Honorable Mention: PHP 7,000.00
A Special Citation may also be given to the following: - Best Regional Entry - Best Entry For/On/By Children
Major cash prizes are subject to standard government tax on prizes and awards (20%).
Winners shall be announced in the awards ceremony during the festival period, and right after, in the social media accounts of FBNMD. Winners will also be informed by phone, SMS, or email after the competition.
The Center reserves the right to exhibit the entries onsite and on CCP’s virtual platform, winning or not, during the festival week. Also, the Center reserves the right not to screen entries it deems unsuitable for public viewing.
All entries will be kept by the CCP for archival purposes, as well as for possible inclusion in CCP programs and productions. Films/videos shown commercially will be properly compensated based on existing copyright laws. A contract will be drawn by the CCP for this purpose.
Previous winners in other major local and international film festivals are not eligible to join the CCP Gawad Alternatibo. Please note, however, that all Gawad short feature entries, winning or not, are eligible to join the Cinemalaya shorts competition if they meet the Cinemalaya guidelines.
